The Grill by Antonio’s

It’s becoming more and more difficult to visit Tagaytay on weekends. Traffic is sooo annoying. The Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Highway used to be a good by pass of Aguinaldo Highway, but it has now become the main access road to Tagaytay. Very narrow for a main road, heavily crowded with residential and sprouting stores alongside the road, with no parking of their own. This is further aggravated by the funerals on weekends.

I wasted more than one hour last Saturday because dozens of vehicles were parked on the other side of the road occupying at least half of the street. A big funeral limousine was parked on our side, occupying 3/4 of the road.
Okay rin naman sila. Yes we do understand that they were waiting for the dead while he’s getting dressed, pero pwede kaya to do it with the least abala to other commuters and people? Hundreds of vehicles waited reaching as far as Nuvali. The barangay tanod’s naman, por dyos por santo, isipin naman po na pag weekend, ay napaka raming sasakyan umaakyat at bumababa sa Tagaytay, dalawang oras ang abala. I pity those who would come up around 2 pm. That’s the time the funeral procession would begin, mas traffic yun, kasi they’re moving yes but in turtle pace, plus dozens of people would be on foot, patigil-tigil pa.

On weekends, better to take Aguinaldo Hway na lang. Back to the old route.

I left the house at 10 am and was supposed to meet someone in Tagaytay at 11:30 am but by 12:40 pm, I was still stuck in that senseless heavy traffic. I missed my first appointment.

2 pm, I was cross-eyed from hunger. I spotted The Grill by Antonio’s, dyan na lang siguro.

Although my driver brought food baon, I still gave him P100 for his lunch, parang thank you kasi nahirapan din sya sa traffic, pareho kaming nagutom.

I like eating during off hours, less people, less noise.

My impression from the outside was this is a steak restaurant, yun pala they serve traditional Filipino food.

The orders were good for 3 or 4 people. Parang family style. The only ones in the menu that’s good for one are the grills (inihaw), chicken, pork bbq, and calamares (pusit).

This Chicken Inasal tasted very similar to Mang Inasal and Bacolod Inasal. Delicious.

I ordered a cup of garlic rice for P55. The chicken was P135, the calamares was P165. I ordered a glass of dalandan juice without checking first the price. When my bill came, I was shocked with the P200 price of dalandan. I just thought that’s too expensive for the place. Diners normally don’t look at the beverages’ prices. I think we should start the habit. Teka asan na ba yung resibo ko, I think I paid over P725, paano naging ganun.
