Aug 26, Monday

My mood had changed after I came back from Central Embassy. My bad temper had subsided. I found my husband in the hotel room waiting for me. We went out and started our day’s exploration of Bangkok. We took a cab going to Chinatown to buy a gold medallion. We became  a little wiser today in haggling with the taxi drivers who demanded stiff fixed fares.

We agreed to pay 130 Baht.  I called the driver’s attention regarding the dirty towel covering his meter.  Medyo na-guilty, he lifted it up.  The meter registered 59 but Edmund paid him THB  130.

We went back and forth literally looking for gold. We couldn’t be too choosy because the choices were limited. Only a few stores sold the size we wanted. We bought from this gold store.
Kinulang cash namin so nagpapalit pa kami ng additional US$300. I didn’t want to use my credit card to save on the 2.50% credit card fee. Sayang din yun. As car dealers we operate on a very thin sales profit margin, sometimes making only o.50%-1%.

Ang daming tao, buying and selling gold. This guy melts the outer layer of the gold bracelet being sold to the store. To see if it’s solid gold or only dipped into a thick layer of gold.

We caught a fruit truck with freshly-harvested lanzones.

We bought two kilos at a very cheap price of 50/ kilo or 100 for the two kilos.

This would be enough for our lanzones session later tonight. Lanzones session is the senior citizens’ version of honeymoon sex. Every time you put the sweetest Bangkok lanzones in your mouth you can’t help but say “ay ang sarap, isa pa nga!”

After a few failed attempts to convince taxis to bring us back to Intercontinental hotel based on the taximeter, we found a dilapidated taxi which safely drove us to the hotel for Baht 140.

We dropped off the two kilos of lanzones in our room and kept the gold chain and pendant in the vault. Then we went out again on foot to find a place where we could have my husband’s birthday dinner.

Next time sakay kami dyan sa river boat. Pasig River could be a good commuter alternative for those coming from Rizal towns working in Manila, Makati.

We couldn’t resist the allure of street food.

Bumuhos ang ulan. We moved to the milk tea store nearby but I bought two cups of lemonade to justify we using their table for customers.

Tummies satisfied at a cost of Baht 750 plus two lemonades for 70 each. Happy birthday date and sumptuous birthday dinner. Happy bday tart.
