Thanks to the cancellation of the economic briefing, I missed my lunch.
Before going home, I went to Lartizan inside Rustan’s Marketplace. I bought 4 pieces of tinapay, specifically croissants or kwasong in French.
I was shocked when the cashier said P156. I thought I heard it wrong. “156?” Repeat, one hundred fifty-six pesos for four small pieces of kwasong. That was the equivalent of my one whole year tuition fee in high school. Grabe the prices nowadays. My daughter told me to adjust my price points. I know what inflation means. But I just couldn’t believe that prices of practically everything in the Philippines have gone up tremendously. Aba sa mahal ng mga bilihin, parang mayaman lahat ng tao sa Pilipinas. Parang barya na lang ang isang daang piso.
I’ve seen students from public schools buying smoothies, booba teas for almost a hundred pesos a cup. I wonder how much allowance their parents give them. Five hundred? Susmaryosep. My baon in college was P25 a week. It wasn’t a lot that’s why I learned how to make tipid.
