Traveling in a war-torn world

My sister and I are spending Semana Santa in Spain together with our respective spouses. Ako ang pasimuno, inaya ko lang sila. I’ve always wanted to experience the deep religious observance of Holy Week in the country which introduced us to Christianity.

Here’s a photo from Alamy.com I found on Google images, to give you an idea about Seville’s Semana Santa. Maybe their observance is just similar to how we do it in our town, but just the same, I am curious and want to experience Holy Week in Spain.

This one is from Spanish Voyages. With God’s grace, I hope to see this moving image in person.

Edmund bought our round-trip tickets from Emirates in February eh kaso binomba at binobomba pa rin ang Dubai. No choice but we have to reroute away from conflict zones, find an alternate route, We bought tickets from Cathay Pacific to avoid the war-torn Middle Eastern areas. Ngayon sold out na from First Class down to Economy.

I spoke with an expat who is scheduled to return to the UK, but his ticket is Qatar Airways. He was shocked to find that changing airlines would cost him around $10,000 for an economy ticket. At this point, he says he’d rather stay in the Philippines than pay that amount.

Millions of international passengers are now caught in this unusual and difficult situation. We ask kailan ba sila titigil magbombahan? We want to see the end of this war, not the end of the world.

Conflicts are resolved through sincere negotiation and compromise. Not by bullying and starting a war that creates destruction and misery.

This used to be a world where people could travel and explore without fear. The war in the Middle East threatens all that.  Matanda na ako,  marami pa akong gustong pasyalan.  How do we travel in a war-torn world?

Travel has a special way of reminding us how connected humanity is. When you walk through markets. lalo na Christmas markets, in another country, try new foods, hear different languages, or watch a sunset somewhere far from home, it becomes clear that most people everywhere want similar things——– peace, family, opportunity, and happiness. My God, this is a beautifully crafted world. Ang sarap mabuhay dito sa mundo.

Arrogance and ignorance steer humanity toward the wrong direction, to the path of depression and retrogression. Paurong tayo, hindi pausad.
