Museum

Ystyle of the Philippine Star hosted a simple cocktails at the Lopez Memorial Museum located on the ground floor of Benpres Building in Ortigas Centre, Pasig City.

The grandaughter of Ambassador Bienvenido Tantoco,  Bea Tantoco,  provided entertainment by singing songs that I have never heard before.  Because,  she sang songs of the younger generation.  Ako naman,  pang Frank Sinatra and Beach Boys.  Bea was good though.

Champagne flowed but not in my direction because I don’t drink.  I am allergic to alcohol.  Too bad,  because wine was sponsored by Moet et |Chandon,  Hennesy & Glenmorangie.

I fell in love with the “Seashore in Paris” painting of Juan Luna.  His other magnificent paintings on display were Espana y Filipinas, Puesta del Sol and Palay de Arcachon.

I instantly became a fan.  Juan Luna’s most famous work is the Spoliarium which won gold medal in the Exposicion Nacional de |Bellas Artes, Spain  in 1884.

In my interest,  I  stumbled upon his personal life.  He murdered his wife, his mother-in-law and seriously injured his brother in law all in a fit of jealousy.  He was released from prison and declared not guilty due to temporary insanity.

I don’t like him anymore!

I saw some original Jose Rizal letters displayed in a glass case.

The Lopez Memorial Museum is open to the public from Mondays to Saturdays except holidays,  8 am to 5 pm.   Adults pay P100 each and students get discounts.
