I met two OFWs living and working here in Hongkong as domestic helpers.
Kababayan Lyn and Cristy
Cristy was recruited by her elder sister who works for a family of 4. Their employers’ do not have regular jobs but are into real estate buying and selling. They stay in their apartment for more or less 5 years, then sell when the timing is right.
Presently they live in a two flat conjoined together units which they bought five years ago for a total of HK$14,000,000. They are now selling these two units together for HK$21,000,000.
Cristy’s family lives in Pangasinan. She sends money and balikbayan boxes regularly. She said isang araw lang ubos na yung pera na padala nya. Mukhang spoiled ang pamilya nya.
She has also worked for 5 years in Taiwan and has been working in HK for quite sometime.
Lyn is also from Pangasinan. They just met each other here in HK and have become close friends ever since. They said it’s destiny that they met here, one Sunday, at the park where Filipino contract workers hang-out every Sunday.
Lyn is separated from her legal husband. They have a son who’s now 21 or 22 years old and is living in Pangasinan.
While she was busy applying for a job in HK thru a placement agency and frequently traveling to Manila while her employment papers were under process, she found out that her husband was having exciting moments with a woman who’s from a nearby barrio. The woman allegedly is a babae sa gabi at araw. According to Lyn, kung kanino kanino daw talaga sumasama yung babae. Lyn caught her husband and this woman in the act. On their bed. Inside their home. No need for details.
She together with her young son, left her husband. Napakasakit daw.
AFter a few years, she met this guy who’s also separated like Lyn, and with 3 grown up children. Lyn said he made her feel important and special. She believed “siya na nga”. His children accepted her and they’re good to her. He’s also nice to Lyn’s son. They have been living like true husband and wife for 7 years. Lyn loves him and believes he also truly loves her. She’s 46 and the man is 57.
When I saw her at IKEA yesterday, she wasn’t shopping, only Cristy, but Lyn was the one pushing the cart.
I noticed that her eyes were red and lids were puffy. After I took their photo together, I mentioned that I would post them on my blog, ohmybuhay. Lyn said “pwede ba rin mag share ng buhay ko?” Of course I answered. Anong i-se-share mo? May problema ka ba? Mukha kang paiyak na.
Her tears started falling. Cristy said “meron kasi siya mam na problema, malalim, mabigat”.
(to be continued, thanks for following.)
