Aileen in Cafe Juanita - Oh My Buhay

I intended to bring them out to dinner at 6 pm but I got home at 7 pm and needed a few minutes to relax. By the time we were leaving, Bong was sound asleep and Aileen had difficulty getting him out of bed. So Aileen and I ended up having a sister bonding night.

We’re not very hungry so we just had appetizers.

We both liked this Cafe Juantia spring roll with a well balanced combination of taro and some veggies.   It came with fresh lettuce, mint, rice noodles and sauce.   It’s definitely not Filipino but  more like Vietnamese.

This’ the first time I came here with a pianist. She had great repertoire. Len and I clapped our hands after her every performance. Most of the customers were oblivious to her presence.

This is not a Tagalog okoy.    The menu says Thai.   We did not finish it.  You could tell why.

I was introduced to Chicharong Bulaklak at Cafe Juanita by Ramon Dimacali,  president of Federal Phoenix Insurance.   I only eat this when I am at this restaurant.

We had two orders of this crispy cat fish with mango salad.     Aileen loved this.

My dessert was creamy buko. with clear gulaman on the side.

Si ate at si bunso.

Professor Halili played the piano with gusto and mastery.  Her fingers moved  as if they were battery operated. Watching her attack the piano keys made one feel like playing the piano is peanuts.

She’s a graduate of the UP Conservatory of Music and is now a professor of music at Sienna College

Living in America with no household helpers and cook made Aileen a good cook herself.

Prof. Halili played my all time favorite Phantom of the Opera. I’ve decided I would invite her over so she could play my favorite songs. I don’t have a grand piano. I’ll ask her if she could bring her own piano (!).

Okoy to go
