There would be a lot of changes in our company in the coming weeks and months. There are a lot of new faces and more would be hired to replace vacant positions and newly created positions. There would be old faces that we would miss only for sentimental reasons not due to competence and value to the company.
There are a few that were let go due to irreconcilable differences. Kung abusado na, dapat good riddance na.
I let go of our 7 1/2 year driver. He really pushed my patience to the edge. When I called the labor department to inform them that I intended to fire this person, when I told them why, they too totally agreed with me and in the middle of our conversation, pati sila nakunsumi. Nananadya daw.
Examples
Me——— “Wag kang masyadong reckless. Huwag mong gitgitin yung iba, may karapatan din silang gumamit ng kalye”.
Babagalan naman nya ng todo-todo na halos tumigil na kami sa gitna ng EDSA.
Altering time cards.
While waiting, driver would lay-down on my seat and put his feet up.
Would fully recline driver’s seat with his legs and feet up the dashboard.
Smoking inside our van while waiting.
Insulting remarks.
Diva-like attitude.
and hundreds more.
Company employees must feel comfortable and happy with their jobs. They must be paid a fair salary and must be treated with respect. However, they are expected to perform assigned tasks competently and must also treat us with respect.
Even if they’ve been with us for many years, they have to be competent, dependable, and dedicated with their jobs. We rely on their competence and efficiency.
When I ask employees questions, I want straight answers.
Example
A———– “So what occupies your time the whole afternoon?”
Staff——- “Reconciling”.
A———– “Oh, I hate that word, when you say reconciling, that means something is wrong with the records. So ano ang ni-re-reconcile mo?”
Incoherent answers.
A———– “So anong month na ang natapos mo?”
Huh? Trabaho sa office, isang bagsakan na lang? Ano yan, Divisoria? Isang bagsakan an delivery ng paninda. From her answers alone, it’s obvious that she didn’t know how to do her job.
The next day, I did what she claimed she’s been doing for several months. Reconciling. I am not saying I am good or better. But I was able to extract the figures in one hour, I did the format in one minute, and reconciled it in 5 minutes.
“Ganito na lang, yan na lang ang gagawin ko, hindi na ako maggagawa ng iba”, staff added.
Again, one doesn’t need an employee who dictates what she just wants to do.
It must be goodbye from here.
New face:
A——— “You were absent today”.
NF——– “Mam, may sakit ako”.
A——— “Okay, get well”.
NF——– “I will report on monday”.
A——— “Ok”
NF——– “Sa tuesday na lang”.
A——— “Ok”.
NF——– “What time shall I report?”
A——— “The regular schedule 8:30am”.
NF——– “Ang aga, pwede 11 am?”
After several hours.
NF——– “Mam, ayoko na”.
Many people look for jobs but they’re not actually wanting to put in their talents, time, effort, and dedication. There is really no desire to excel. Yes, they want to earn money and they aspire for high paying jobs, but high pay comes with a price.
This is an equal opportunity. Hindi pwedeng mataas ang sweldo, pero no contribution to the company.
No person would admit any mistake. Not one would humbly say, I am not good enough. It’s human tendency to over estimate ourselves. We always think we are very good, and the world owes us.
This past few days, my prayers were centered on help, guidance. I don’t know what to do with the challenges before me. My capacity, knowledge and intelligence are far too limited. I need help. I need guidance.
Admittance of our individual inequities doesn’t make us less of a person.
It gives us an opportunity to improve things. To improve our capabilities, and hopefully, an opportunity to make things better. And succeed more.
