Thank you to all ohmybuhay readers who recommended their own skin creams, medicines, lotions, herbal concoctions, organic remedies. None of them worked on my son’s skin problem. My family and I really do appreciate your concern and gestures. Thank you so much.
Yesterday, my son and I went back to the doctor’s clinic in St. Luke’s yesterday afternoon. Kasi his rashes are still there on his face. My son has put on more than 12 pounds in a span of only one month as a result of the steroids he’s been taking as prescribed by the doctor. They didn’t work. It didn’t work. It doesn’t work.
Doctor was very honest and candid, he said he doesn’t know what to do anymore. He started saying maybe, baka it would work, kasi, all those words are indications that he really doesn’t know. Obvious that we just wasted our time and resources.
And worst, my son is into steroids for a month now which only exposed his body to negative effects. And now, we cannot just stop his medication otherwise his skin would worsen. Ahhhhhhhhh I am so very very frustrated.
The doctor prescribed something and I could see from my son’s look that he has lost his faith, I did too, at least as far as the doctor’s reseta is concerned. We don’t want hula lang. We want definite answers and concrete course of action.
He said maybe we should go back to a dermatologist. He recommends a certain Dr. Vivian Tan from St. Luke’s Quezon City. Yes, maybe, we would see her next week.
We’ve been to so many dermatologists already. None of them knew what to do. Puro hula lang din. I cannot lose hope, I know. But I feel so sad and frustrated.
The hospital’s grand staircase is symbolic of our quest for cure. Parang ang taas, parang ang hirap akyatin. We are nowhere near the top, the cure.
Yesterday, while I was talking to our house girl, I noticed how beautiful her skin is. She has very fair complexion, flawless, not a tiny rash or pimple. She has something my children don’t have. She doesn’t have to spend thousands for medication.
Our driver has very good teeth, White tiny teeth, they’re so perfect na kahit tila hindi magsupilyo ng tatlong buwan ay hindi maninilaw. My son has to regularly go to a dentist, wears braces, and it’s taking years to correct his teeth alignment.
Allergic to dust? to heat? humidity? Eh bakit yung mga natutulog sa kalye, ano bang dust. They sleep on dusts.
God distributed his blessings. One can’t have everything.
Oh God, please help us find the cure. Please point us to the right direction.
Ms. Annie, im so sorry nothing works on your son’s skin problems. I felt that way too when i was younger. It felt like nothing could fix the skin allergies i had since i was a baby. When i stopped obssessing about them, slowly, they also stopped coming back. I dont know what happened, maybe i just grew older and my skin adjusted to whatever. Anyway, now, i dont have much, except for the occasional ones which show up when i eat too much of the “bawal”. Dnt let your son eat muna eggs, chicken, pork and crustaceans. Baka yun ang cause why they dont disappear. I finally realized that these kinds of food caused my skin to break out into a rash because of the feeds given to them. Yung mga chemical growth whatever. So, the solution was, i would buy from the farm. Native chicken, eggs and pork. The crustaceans, i just dont eat at all.
One day i hope you will find an answer to this problem. Im sure meron yan dyan..good luck!
Hi Ms. Annie, years ago, my face started developing rashes that looked like pimples. Went to several dermatologists who prescribed so many creams and ointments. Nothing work until one derma told me I could be allergic to soap, on the face only. She asked me to use Ponds instead. I found a way to use Ponds without the oily mess. The rashes disappeared. Good luck in your quest, I hope you and your son find the medical solution that has so far remained elusive.

It’s really frustrating when you are doing everything possible and nothing seems to work. Believe it or not your son also gets his strength from you so you have to continue searching and never give up. Have you tried consulting with Dr Vermen M. Verallo-Rowell? She is a renowned dermatology-dermatopathogist, she’s the VMV of the VMV hypoallergenics line..Her office is at the Makati Med. She was my doctor when I had SJS(Stevens-Johnson syndrome) which is severe allergic reaction to medication. I had blisters all over my body, i looked like a burn patient..I recovered under her care. This was 10 years ago. Have Julienne research about her to see if you guys want to consult with her. All the best to you guys!
Thank you Apple. Will try to contact Dr. Rowell.
I empathize since I started getting weird rashes and swelling in my mid-twenties. Don’t give up. I tried GPs who recommended me to allergists who referred me to dermatologists. I also tried homeopathic and traditional Chinese medicine – since Western medicine didn’t do much, why not? My TCM doctor said that I had lung chi deficiency – makes sense since I also had asthma of the lungs. It’s been over 8 years and I still get episodes. Long story short, the allopathic diagnosis (and I use this loosely!) is eczema, utricaria (hives), angioedema (idiopathic – allergy tests haven’t shown anything). The eczema was relatively easy to spot. The angioedema part – swollen patches on face (on my cheeks and around my nose) which also made me feel very lethargic – was very hard to pinpoint. Sometimes, they would appear out of the blue and I’d wake up in the morning covered in spots – very warm to the touch and would turn itchy when they were subsiding. They haven’t disappeared completely but, Bethamethasone Dipropionate (a very strong cortisteroid) ointment has worked. I’d apply it as directed during flare-ups but, only once every few days for maintenance. I take it in combination of anti-histamines which helps with the swelling. Much easier on the body than oral steroids. Good luck!
We’ve tried bethamethasone and other combinations.
Thank you Tania.
Good morning Ms. Annie – Nyke is so blessed to have you as her mom! I could feel how the family loves each other. And you are so beautiful inside and out. I can see how frustrated you are with your son’s skin condition. Sabi nga nila even you can affored to have the best doctors still you can’t find the cure. In my humble suggestion, Nyke should change his diet and slowly turn to green foods. You can check on this website for your appreciation : http://www.thesuperfoodgrocer.com
I am hoping Nyke will soon be well.
Keep on entertaining and inspiring us your readers Ms. Annie!
Hi DJ,
Thank you for your kind words and concern about Nyke’s skin condition. Maybe he should really change his
diet and go for healthier food choices. I will check on the website of super food grocer.
Hi OMB, have you tried Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar? It’s available in supermarkets though often out of stock. If your son doesn’t like the taste you can add some raw honey. 1Tbsp mixed with 1 cup water day and night. You can research about apple cider vinegar’s health benefits. Bragg’s is the recommended brand because it is organic. A friend of mine went through so much, similar to your family’s, looking for a cure which dermatologists could not fix. Puro steroids nga ang solution nila. Ang mahirap nyan, pag face. Pag body minsan uubra pa ang Atopiclair lotion — although it doesn’t heal per se, it helps moisturize to help speed up the cure.
