We paid P3,600 for a half day city tour of Legazpi. Oyen wanted to cancel our tour because it was raining. I said we should go ahead because it’s just rain. The worst thing that could happen is we would get wet. We have nothing to do anyway and at least we would be able to get that tour out of the way. We were picked up from the hotel at 1 pm by the tour guide named Fel and the driver/owner of Toyota Innova, Melchor.
They first brought us to the 156 meters high Lignon Hill Nature Park which could be seen from our hotel. It’s also known as the Philvocs observatory.
The road is winding and it leads to a breathtaking view of Legazpi City, the airport runway, the Albay Gulf, and Mayon Volcano. I believe this viewing deck and the roads were built during the Marcos time.
There’s also a hanging bridge and ziplining for daring visitors.
The Ligon is their calvary here. during Holy Week, thousands of people climb up the hill for station of the cross and petinence.
The runway could be seen from the Lignon Hill.

Mayon was covered with thick clouds while we were on the view deck. It’s hard pala to get a clear shot of the perfect cone because most of the time it’s hiding behind the clouds.
This is the best spot to watch Mayon spewing smoke and lava according to our tour guide.
