Our second and last night in Bordeaux ended with a traditional French country cuisine at La Tupina Restaurant.
We were picked up by the buses at 7 pm, a short drive thru the city and along the waterfront brought us to the so-called gourmet street.
It rained while we were walking to the restaurant, complete with lightning and thunderstorms.
There are pocket gardens and mini parks scattered around the city of Bordeaux. I see old people just sitting, some reading books. Sana ganyan din dito sa atin. I wish our surroundings are this clean and orderly and our quality of life is better.
History
It was during the reign of King Louis XVI that the gourmet street, Rue de la Monnaye came into being. In 1752, the Hotel de la Monnaie, where coins were minted, was transferred.
The narrow cobbled stone street which opened onto the port became a commercial street with restaurants, cafes.
In 1968, Jean-Pierre XIRADAKIS, bought a small building in the premises and opened La Tupina, a bistro serving traditional and simple French south western dishes using fresh produce from the market.
In 1980, the owner stuck to his own countryside cuisine and revived the Boeuf de Bazas, Agneau de Pauillac and the Haricot Tarbais.
Today
La Tupina remains in the gourmet street of Bordeaux center, at 6-8 rue porte de la Monnaie. It’s included in the Top 50 Best Restaurants in the World by the British magazine, Restaurant; Voted Second Best Bistro in the World by Patricia Wells from the International Herald Tribune; voted Best Restaurant in the World by Herald Tribune.

I wasn’t able to transfer the photos from my camera to my laptop, ayun tuloy, naubos ang space. This one is from Angel’s camera:

the oven and stove are located right at the entrance.
Chosen menu for all 63+ of us
I gulped two tiny cups of tomato soup
Chit Juan said this roll of butter sells for P500 in Rustan’s. Nung nalaman namin, aba, ubusin yan.
foie gras with sunog and tigas toast
They served the slab of steak family style. I don’t eat red meat kaya I ate lang the almost burnt gilid-gilid.
Well, I can’t say that it’s the best restaurant for me, but the ambiance is nice, like quaint, country and probinsya style which I like. I don’t mind going back next time I am in Bordeaux.
La Tupina Restaurant was named after the cooking pot which they still use up to today.
