Edmund said he’s been curious about what’s on the other side of Sierra Madre mountain ranges. He wanted to go to Real, Batangas daw. The view must be spectacular because it’s facing the Pacific Ocean.

His friend Pong owns a Harley Davidson motorbike. He and a group of bikers regularly climb the mountains in  Antipolo, Tanay and  into Real, Quezon for a 150 kilometer road trip.
This route is the favorite of bikers because less vehicles use this road in going to Quezon. Edmund asked Pong for information on where to go, where to eat, where to pass. The only information we got was it’s 150 km away, and we could eat in Sierra Madre resort.

We left our house at almost 9 am. We passed thru the busy and congested streets of Cogeo, Antipolo. It was a Sunday and thousands of people were going to churches and markets. It took us a good hour before we reached a clearing.

We could not run fast because of public vehicles, pedestrians, road construction, etc. After we passed thru the congested areas, we still couldn’t go faster because the road is zigzag all the way to Quezon. Nakakahilo.

I had a minor asthma attack an hour into our road trip, tapos I left pala my peppermint rub and Vicks. Edmund asked  if I wanted to go back home. I didn’t want to ruin his day. Buti na lang Oyen found some minty inhaler in her bag.

We passed valleys and mountains. When we saw a clearing, we stopped to take photos of the mountains.

We stopped for a few minutes somewhere in Tanay to admire the view. We met three bikers from Marikina who were coming back from Real, Quezon.

Jacob Muriel, Genesis Cervero, Nick Salcedo.  Nick said they would go back to Quezon after a week to bring their families.  They would ride their bikes and their families would convoy  in cars.  They will find some nice beach resort to stay for a night or two.

We got excited when we saw a makahiya plant.  Everytime I see a makahiya,  I always touch them with  my foot to make them “hiya”.   It’s nostalgic.

Amidst the serenity and orderliness of nature in that part of a mountain in  Tanay, there’s a barung-barong in the middle of nowhere alongside the road. Caretaker or squatter?

  1. Hi ms.annie. We have lots of that here in negros. When you find yourself in this part of the country, let me know and i can take you around.

  2. I use to ride there on my bike every Sunday. It was my way of finding solace. I remember i was mending my broken heart during that time when my separated from my wife. Great stress reliever mam. 🙂
