I’ve been telling my children that I would teach them how to calculate the sizes of rooms, buildings, land. But so far we have never sat down so I could give them a lesson on Schematics 101.

Edmund and I have always been mistaken as architects or engineers because we know a lot about concept of space, designs, construction, etc. Edmund learned hands-on. When his father was building their house in Malabon, Edmund was asked to pick up construction supplies, etc. Natuto sya konti. Then as we build more structures, his knowledge and skills were honed.

Me naman, I just knew what I wanted in my future house kaya ako na lang ang nag drawing, nag plano and I gave na lang my flat drawings to the architect. We just needed to hire a professional to help us with the construction drawings. Walang hirap yung architect. I gave him the house lay-out.

Having an accurate concept of space is important. If you find yourself in a situation where you need to estimate the size of a room or a table, or the height of a fence, one must have a good understanding of basic meters and rulers.

Even if you’re staying in a tight condo, apartment, flat, it’s good to know the measurements.

Many people build homes based on the architectural drawings presented to them by their architect or builder. When the house is done, owner would realize, ay bakit ang liit pala, ay sobrang laki pala. this surprises could be prevented if the owners have a good sense of space.

This lesson is very basic. (I will continue this post later).
