My UST classmate, Eufrocinia Hernandez, found me on Oh My Buhay. As soon as I entered my hotel room, she had already left a message in the room inviting me for lunch. When we finally were able to speak on the phone at 9 pm, she spent the first half hour talking about my Oh my buhay posts. She knows Antonia, too.
She’s based pala in Washington DC. She picked me up from the Renaissance Du Pont Circle Hotel and brought me to the OLD EBBIT GRILL, one of the oldest and best restaurants in the city.
Cinia had difficulty parking. We went to two parking buildings before we found a spot. Her Volkswagon SUV is less than a year. It’s overwhelming for her to think that it could be scratched, ingat na ingat pa sya.
We walked a few blocks from the parking building to the restaurant.
It’s an old historic oyster bar walking distance to the White House.
It was founded in 1856.
We were late for our reservation. I heard this guy, Mark, telling Cinia, we’ve lost our slot. We were late by half hour kasi nga we couldn’t find a parking. When he heard me speaking to Cinia in Tagalog, he became friendlier. He asked where we’re from. Philippines. Ding dong. We now have a table. His step dad or step mom is Filipina and Mark can whip up Filipino dishes very well. He can cook kare-kare, adobo, pansit, lumpia, sinigang, name it, he can cook it.
Cinia said the fried calamares is highly recommended.
We each ordered a small cup of clam chowder. It’s very creamy and full of potatoes.
Cinia and I were seatmates in a subject or two. She used to walk together in Dapitan. She’s from Baliwag, Bulacan, and maintained an apartment near the university belt.
She brought some of her husbands skin medicines. She is updated about Nyke’s asthma of the skin that’s why she recommended this medicines which she claims, are effective on her husband’s skin problems.
We split this crab cakes. One for her, one for me.
I skipped the dessert because my tummy was about to explode from too much calamares.
There are less restaurants now with free matches.
