USA
I was out the whole Saturday.
I didn’t want to go out in the morning so I could rest but Bong and Aileen insisted that we go to the flea market as we originally planned.
We first went to the Ohlone College Flea Market in Fremont. It was such a beautiful morning. We were there from 9 am to 10:30 am. The breeze was cold but the sun became intense beginning at 10 am.
The flea market is held at the large parking area of Ohlone College every second Saturday of every month.
I enjoy going to flea markets here in the US. For one, it’s a good exercise, leisurely walking for an hour. The breeze is cold and this is something I couldn’t do when in Manila.
Some of the items sold at the Ohlone flea market are talagang parang itatapon na lang. But other people’s garbage could be someone else’s joy. This is simple recycling.
For me, I consider buying form vendors who sell dollar-dollar old stuff not shopping. I consider that a little bit of charity. Making others happy at the same time helping them earn a decent keep.
Poor people can shop at flea markets with a few dollars. Those who have the means can buy a few things and donate the goods to charitable institutions like Goodwill. For citizens of this country, they can get tax deductible receipts from Goodwill.
I bought this cellulose sponge scrubbers.
The guy is imaginative and artistic. He turned old hub cubs into something pretty.
Some people unload their house’s kalat by selling in flea markets thru their friends or relatives like this happy harvest Halloween decor.
I saw an American lady wrapping a gorgeous porcelain tea set by Haviland made in France. I touched the cup. She said she just bought it for $100. I congratulated her. It was a beautiful set.
Bong told me had we gone earlier, I could have bought the set instead.
