You really shouldn’t judge. I look completely normal at first glance but upon closer look, my shoulders are very imbalanced because of my scoliosis. I have a hard time carrying things because just carrying something even for 10 seconds makes my back and shoulders ache very badly. You get migraine so you stay away from things that trigger your migraine, in just the same way, I refrain from carrying a heavy bag because of my scoliosis. I make mine as light as possible–essentials such as my wallet, phone and my asthma medicine. But sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time trigger my back and shoulder ache too, but there is no way to avoid those. The girl in the picture may be suffering the same way I do, so please, do not judge.
My sister Ayleen was hit by a jeepney when she was two. Her shoulder bone was broken. Until now, it still hurts and her shoulders are not balanced.
She carries her own bag. She manages the weight, she doesn’t let her husband carry her bag.
I do have migraine, I can’t carry heavy loads, I always trip even without carrying anything. my shoulders ache when my bag is too heavy, and I think that is also one of the triggers of my migraine attacks, that’s why I hate heavy bags.
This is not about being judgmental. This is about women exercising better judgement. If we can’t carry a pound of weight, if we are sickly, it’s totally fine to let our husbands or boyfriends carry our bags. HOWEVER, don’t bring your girly bag. Ask him to carry HIS bag and put your make up kit, medicines, and what have you inside HIS own bag.
Once in a while, if we find ourselves in a situation wherein biglang ang bigat ng bag natin, hirap nating buhatin or biglang sumama ang ating pakiramdam while we’re outside, okay lang to ask for the guy’s help. But we should not make it as a habit that HE carries our handbags.
Please do not judge. I look normal at first glance but a closer look would show my imbalanced shoulders because of scoliosis. I cannot carry a light bag even for 5 seconds on my right shoulder because it would trigger back and shoulder ache that’s so bad I need to take strong prescription pain relievers. You get migraine attacks so you avoid things that trigger that. I do the same, I carry a light bag with just the essentials–phone, wallet, meds–on my left shoulder always. But standing and walking (even sitting) for extended periods of time also trigger my back and shoulder pains, even when my very light bag is on my left shoulder, and there is just no way to avoid doing those so I suck it up. But I have a boyfriend and a brother who willingly carry my bag for me at the first sight of discomfort on my end. The girl in the picture might be suffering the way that I do, so please, don’t judge.
Either “Carry your bag ” or Don’t bring a bag ” = I totally agree.
My bag has a lot of abubot and if I cannot carry it because of too much walking, standing etc. my husband would normally take out a pouch or two from my bag (that contains cosmetics, first aid, meds ) ilalagay sa Reusable bag and he would carry them for me, kasi I don’t allow him to hold my bag na pambabae.
During supermarket and farmer’s market shopping, I just carry a Wristlet.
I make adjustments.
I don’t think Annie is being judgmental here. We can easily see naman if such bag / purse is heavy that requires help from a male companion. Ganda ng bag color di ba? Tiffany!! 🙂
Totally agree with this. Please don’t let your partner carry your bag especially if it is as small as a pouch. It is an eyesore and emasculating. If we can’t carry it because it is heavy, then might as well take something out of it. I only let my boyfriend carry mine if I need to get something and my hands are full na. Otherwise, tiis-ganda. 🙂
I don’t think that you are being judgmental here. Just an honest opinion, which a lot of us share.
As long as it is not contrary to law, morals, good customs public order or public policy or to Ms. Emily Post, the best approach would be to live and let live and approach the issue on a case-to-case basis. After all, compared to the problems of the world such as world peace, war, famine, pestilence and disease, the issue of whether or not to carry a woman’s handbag seems so miniscule, trifling and unworthy of debate. Chill everyone.
I agree. It’s emasculating.
