I like rainy season because it’s cooler, air is cleaner and the rain clears our surroundings of dusts. Rivers and lakes are infused with fresh water. (As long as the rain does not cause floods and natural disaster like landslides).
Rain also brings childhood memories. The splatter of rain on our galvanized iron roof. The scary sound of lighting and thunder that pierce thru the skies. The tiny paper boats racing on the sidewalk canal. My papa carrying an empty Del Monte pineapple can to catch the leaks from our roof. The voice of my mama telling my father “Rec, yung alulod natin may tulo”. My sister and I curled up in our pajamas under the kulambo.
Gloomy skies not only bring rain but reminds me of my life yesterday. Rains come and go and always, they bring with them the loving memories of the people that were with me in the beginning of my life’s journey.
Rain makes it easy to be contemplative, too. I think it sets the mood for introspection.
