Every now and then Forbes magazine releases some names who make it to their list of richest people on earth. Yesterday, they released 50 names of super mega yaman Filipinos with Henry Sy, Sr. on the far top. A nine billion dollar distance to the second placer is a very comfortable lead.
John Gokongwei comes second with only US$5.5 Billion. Parang kawawa ano?
And why are our names not there? Obvious ba kasi poor tayo (hay).
Let’s not feel bad. We are equally important. There are other lists, though not from Forbes.
Citibank has been texting me following up on my credit card payment. Since I failed to visit my office even once the past two weeks, my bill probably wandered on my desk and no one came to pay it. As corny as it sounds, my name is on their list of overdue accounts.
Go to your suking tindahan sa kanto. Tingnan kung gaano na kahaba ang listahan ng mga nakuha mong suka, tayo, Knorr sinigang at patis. At least your name is on their list.
I wonder what one does with $14.4B assets. Mr. Sy’s children are all managing their empire and have built their own substantial wealth.
If I have that much money, I would channel most of it back to the society. With a $9B lead, I can donate $2B to the community and still maintain my number one slot.
Mr. Sy does channel his wealth back into the community thru his SM Foundation, Miss Annie. He’s sent countless of bright yet underprivileged students to college in the hopes that his scholars would in turn improve their families’ lives financially.
