Senator Grace Poe DQ Case - Oh My Buhay

Senator Grace Poe DQ Case

Our driver D drives us crazy when it comes to driving and reading numbers. Yesterday he surprised me with his rationalization of Senator Grace Poe’s disqualification case (DQ)

Sen. Grace Poe

He heard on the radio that some people were comparing the case with Imelda Marcos’s situation when she ran for congresswoman. There was also a question with regards to her residency.

Driver D said it’s a totally different case. He said Poe left the country and became an American Citizen. Imelda Marcos never became an American Citizen. She did not abandon her Filipino citizenship. Driver D said even if Imelda Marcos transferred from one town to another, sa Pilipinas pa rin daw yun, hindi naman daw sa America.
Dapat daw lahat tayo susunod sa constitution kung hindi, lahat na lang kakandidato kahit hindi Pilipino.

I read some of the columns and editorials in today’s Philippine Daily Inquirer. I took particular interest on what Senator Loren Legarda had said that it only took them a minute to decide on Poe’s petition to be declared a natural born citizen.

it only took a minute- Sen. Legarda

She said they almost didn’t talk about it, there was no more voting. They spent more time discussing about China’s claims. Huh? Did they meticulously read in detail, word for word, the articles in the constitution about the definition of a natural born citizen, and of foundlings, discussed it lengthily, intelligently? Dapat ito ay masusing pinag-aaralan. Pinag-susunugan ng kilay.

When one is presented with a major and very important case to decide on, our best judgement would tell us to arm ourselves with the right information and knowledge so that our decisions would have intellectual, factual and legal basis because it’s based on what is in our constitution.

Lerias Doctrine, Inquirer,

Abolish the Senate

I always hear people say that the senate must be abolished. The country would save billions of pesos which could go to more important things like basic healthcare to Filipinos. We are not getting our money’s worth by having senators. Let’s quantify what they have done in the past 12 years to uplift the lives of Filipinos. Kung meron mang ilan, napakalaki naman ang perang inilalaan para sa kanila. Yung mga batas na naipasa nila, napaka basic lang naman, kaya ring isipin ng mga staff ng mga congresista. The next president and congressmen should give this suggestion some serious thought.

Edmund noticed me sitting on the bed, in deep thought. Ano ba daw ang iniiisp ko at talagang affected na affected ako. Naka-kunot daw ang noo ko. Nainis kasi ako pagka-basa ko ng dyaryo.

The court must decide soonest so as not to confuse the people. If Grace Poe wins the election and the issue on the legality of her being a natural born citizen including the residency required by the constitution are still hanging, we could have a constitutional crisis. Although there’s a vice president, we do not want the VP winner to instantly become president. The presidential candidate who garnered the second highest number of votes must be declared the winner. I don’t know if that’s what’s in the constitution.

Sen. Poe's case

The five way presidential fight is getting more and more exciting with each passing day.
Miriam, Poe, Binay, Mar, Duterte.
May the best person win.
