Dinner at Crystal Jade

To say that it was an extremely stressful day yesterday is an understatement. We were all tired and weary but we managed to have a family dinner with smiles on our faces.

It was my daughter’s birthday and malapit na daw syang mawala sa kalendaryo.

Up to the last minute we didn’t know whether we would go to Kapitolyo to have a simple dinner, or to just stay home, or have dimsum.

Since all of us were in the area, we met at the Fort and sat there for a while, trying to calm ourselves down and also deciding on where to eat.
At 6:30 pm, our tummies were either upset or not hungry. Edmund had a 3 pm lunch of a bowl of batchoy while the three of us also had late lunch at 3 pm but in another restaurant.

Yen wanted steak, but not quite sure din kasi busog pa sya. She was also in the mood for hakaw. Crystal Jade was steps away from where we were seated, so I suggested we just go there, for the birthday noodle.

When my children were still younger, I tried to make it a habit to pray together before meals but for many years now, we no longer pray every meal. But it doesn’t mean we’re not thankful. We just don’t say grace openly. A few days ago, I reminded my children that we should always be grateful for the food on the table. We can say our thanks secretly, in our hearts and mind.

We asked the waiter to divide the bowl of noodles and place our individual share in smaller bowls. This is my share.

We ordered half a Peking Duck prepared two ways.

We couldn’t decide what seafood to order. We ended up choosing this baked prawns in salted egg. I removed the coating.

We also ordered a small plate of fish with string beans. Half of these were wrapped to go.

Happy birthday anak. I hope your birthday next year would be a lot happier.
God bless you. Mabait kang bata at marunong sumunod at magpahalaga sa magulang.
