We didn’t go out on Maundy Thursday. We planned on visiting at least one church in the evening but we were too exhausted so we just stayed home.

My husband said he saw a tv feature saying that they could not trace where the Filipino tradition of visiting many churches on Holy Thursday started.
The literal translation of Visita Iglesia is church visit, that means if we visit only one church, that would suffice.

Siguro it just evolved, it became a family activity, for fun and bonding.
I see nothing wrong in continuing this family tradition. We always had fun eating peanuts, fish ball, inihaw na mais and inihaw na pusit. Pag-uwi namin, meron pa kaming take home na puto-bumbong and bibingka.

There was an NGO who set up a tent in front of Ford Cainta to provide emergency care and drinking water for the thousands of devotees passing thru Ortigas Avenue Extension to Antipolo on Holy Thursday.

Last year there were many big concrete drainage pipes scattered in that area of Ortigas Avenue Extn. which made it difficult for the devotees to cross to the other side of the street.

The road widening, filling and pipe-laying are at last finished. There is an additional one lane and the road had been elevated to prevent flooding.
We hope what they did would prevent heavy flooding in the area. Ford Cainta building used to be two meters higher than the street level. Now it’s only one meter higher than the road.
