There were several brand new maids uniforms I bought two months ago but the group of maids we had then never wore them. They didn’t like the color. They didn’t like the style. They simply didn’t want to follow the prescribed daily uniform.
When this new group arrived, I looked for the unworn uniforms. They were nowhere to be found. Gone with the former maids.
Edmund noticed the fancy clothes the new girls have been wearing. As an immediate remedy, he gave each of them money to shop for new daily clothes. His request was to choose plain colored ones.
Teknikulay pa rin ang binili nila.
I rushed to the department store to get a few uniforms but their stocks were limited. The plain colored ones only had large and XL sizes.
A——“Saan ang maids uniforms dito?”
Sales Guy——“Ay dun mam”.
Sales Guy to a Sales Girl ——“Maids uniforms”.
Sales Girl——“Dito mam”.
A——-“Yung plain lang sana. Limited na stocks nyo.”
Sales Girl——-“Eto mam”.
A——-“Size small”.
Sales Girl——-“Wala na kaming small, large na lang, kasya ito mam, kasi maliit ang large”.
(She opened one plastic and showed how small a size large is.)
Of course it’s big, it’s LARGE.
A——-“Masyadong malaki yan”.
(She looked at me and directed her eyes towards my body down to my waist.)
Sales Girl—–“Maliit mam ang large, sino ba magsusuot?”
(Huh? Di ba maids uniforms ito? Di ba sinabi na sa kanya na maids uniforms ang pakay ko? Sino daw ang magsusuot? I was tired and was losing my sense of humor.
I didn’t say a word because baka matarayan ko lang. Itinaas ko lang ang noo ko at medyo idinilat ko ang mata ko in disbelief. I just looked at her. I was hoping she would get the point. She did not. She also just looked at me, waiting for my answer. Sabi ko na nga ba ayaw kong magsalita kasi di ba if you have nothing good to say, don’t say it.
A——“Alangan naman ako”.
(Hayan na nga ba ang iniiwasan ko, lumabas ang tunay na kulay ko, antipatika.)
I managed to find three sets medyo teknikulay din but at least size medium. Pwede na muna ito.
After two reminders and three hours, they all hesitantly agreed to wear the uniforms but for a few hours only.
The next morning, they followed their own mix and match fashion.
Hello! Please enlighten me. Why do you need to get uniforms for your maids? Do they still wear their uniforms when they go out with you and your family? I find it really degrading.
I give my helpers uniforms so that their own clothes don’t get dirty or torn when they work (ie clean, cook, wash, etc). As for when we go out, I give them the option of changing into civilian clothes but I have had a few who actually prefer to wear their uniform and are proud to wear it.
hindi naman DEGRADING ang pagsusuot ng maids ng uniforms.. Mas MAGANDA nga tingnan kc MALINIS sila tingnan at hindi gusgusin kahit nagtratrabaho sa loob man o labas ng bahay ng mga amo nila.. Mas maganda tingnan kesa ung naka shorty shorts at spaghetti straps na midriff tapos naliligo sa sariling pawis habang nagsisilbi ng pagkain sa table.. Mas malinis sila tingnan kc maayos ang uniform nila at hindi lumuluwa ang mga dibdib habang nagga-garden o naglilinis ng bathrooms.. Mas malayo pa sa tukso ng mga taong nakapaligid sa kanila kc hindi sila naka mini skirt o naka plunging neckline habang nagtratrabaho sa loob ng bahay..
It is not the clothes that they wear that DEFINES a person.. It is HOW THEY ARE TREATED by others and HOW THEY TREAT OTHERS that really defines their character..
It is NOT the uniforms that DEGRADES people.. It is how OTHER PEOPLE TREAT them that makes it so degrading for them, whether they are maids or drivers or gardeners or houseboys..
