I am thinking of putting two 8 ft or 10 ft. sculptures in the garden. I want a man and a woman who look so in love with each other. I want them to evoke love or maybe some cuteness so that when people look at them, they would brighten up their days or touch their hearts or make them feel loved or in love.
I broached the idea to maestro Nemiranda. When I asked him how much this things would cost, He gave me an estimate of around P400,000 based on the height that I wanted. Nanay ko po. I said “cannot be borrow one from two. Cannot afford”. I suggested kung pwede wag na lang sya ang gumawa. Yung boy or driver na lang nya para mura lang. I wasn’t sure if he found my suggestion funny.
Mahal pala. Lalo na kung dalawa. At syempre, si Nemiranda pa. Inisip ko, ayaw ko na ng man and woman. Isa na lang estatwa. Girl na lang at ako na lang ang gagawa para maka tipid ako. I can be the sculptor. Ako na rin ang mado-drawing.
Mahirap mag-panggap na artist pag walang ka-talent-talent.
I got so excited upon seeing a store along Whiteplains Avenue selling religious statues. We made a U-turn.
St. Joseph (100,000)
They have a huge Jesus Christ statue. (P100,000) Hmm what if eto na lang para bumait tayong lahat. We’ll feel the urge to kneel down and pray and ask forgiveness for our kalokohan.
The woman manning the store couldn’t offer information except for the standard price for the size that I wanted was a hundred grand. I insisted on finding where the sculptor could be found. His office and main store is in Santolan.
I called their store and asked them to wait for me. The one who answered said it’s already 5 pm and they’re closed. I said, “no, you are still open kasi nadyan ka pa. So paki intay mo ako please”.
It was heavy traffic along Santolan Road as usual. I reached their shop in 45 minutes, at almost 6 pm. The door was locked, but she was still inside. She had no choice but to open it when I tried to push the door open.
Eh excited akong magka sculpture kaya pasensya na lang sya sa kulit ko.
Ang ganda nito, fairy daw, but she’s so tiny.
I showed the manager my drawing.
Woman—- “Ahh mukha. Gusto mo pala Snow White”.
Huh, kamukha ba ni Snow White yung drawing ko? Nakakahiya naman kay Snow White.
A statue that size (8 ft) is 100,000 but since I have my own design (she mentioned SW again, it would cost a little bit more. She couldn’t even utter the amount. She chose to write it down on a piece of paper. 150,000!!! Whooo. Uwi na lang ako.
