We are creatures of habit - Oh My Buhay

We are Creatures of Habit

All human beings, animals alike, develop habits based on their natural habitats, social experiences, preferences, needs, likes and dislikes, etc. It’s vital to our psychological and emotional stability to have familiarity with our surroundings. There’s stability or consistency. We live with the same people, we sleep in the same room, we live in the same house, etc. This makes us feel at home, relax, at ease, comfortable.

We go to places that we are familiar with, we feel good about. We eat the same food most of the time that’s why they are called favorite food.

We are creatures of habit and our family is no exception. If you have noticed, we like to eat. We always eat out. But the restaurants that we visit are not too many. We always go the same places again and again. We do not like to explore new areas, only when my daughter highly recommended one. We are lazy to check out new kids on the block. We just go to where we are familiar with, where convenient, where it’s fairly easy.

My husband and I ate at Balay Dako 4 times this past month. We ordered the same stuff and preferred to sit at the same table or at least in the same dining section.

Last night was no exception.
We went to the same church muna syempre bago kain.

We arrived two minutes before the mass started.

Even before the mass started, Edmund was already complaining that he’s hungry. We asked Oyen to choose where to eat. She said Japanese, Akira in Shang or Haru in Kapitolyo. I couldn’t remember a bit about Akira. Yen said we’ve been there before. After a few minutes of trying to refresh my memory, she conceded. Let’s go to Haru na lang. When Edmund heard Haru, agreed agad sya. So Haru for the nth time.

The restaurant was supposed to be a 10 minute drive pero quarter to nine na we’re still on the road. I was becoming claustrophobic. It took Edmund 3.5 hours.

Buti naman, hindi gaanong maingay sa restaurant.

Edmund never fails to order chawanmushi whether he’s in Kimpura, Haru or in any other Japanese resto. Sya lang nag-o-order except for last night. I decided to forgo my favorite teppanyaki oysters and instead maki gaya ako, I ordered chawanmushi too.

Edmund asked how come I didn’t order agedashi tofu. Kasi wala akong ka-share. I wouldn’t be able to finish a whole order. Usually ka-share ko anak ko.

My usual dessert, halo-halo. I forgot to tell them not to put ice cream on top. I love ice cream but I hate it when mixed with J lo. Gusto ko kasi yung halo-halo na lasang probinsya. Pinipig, munggo, gulaman, sago, okay na yan, masarap na at maraming gatas.

Halo-halo for me, Haru

I gave husband the scoop of vanilla ice cream

Halo-halo always. Hala, sugar spikes and bilbil pa more.
