She found out on Instagram

She always thought that her eldest son was a shy kid. Very shy most especially in front of women. She noticed that he’s more comfortable when he’s with his male friends.

He opted to go to New York for college, sharing a room with his high school friend Nathaniel, away from his family who lives in LA. They thought living away from home would be good for him and that he would learn to be independent and assertive because they thought he was soft and shy.
While in NY as a freshman, he flunked all his subjects. Went partying, drinking and bar hopping. He was once arrested by the police for public disturbance while under the influence. He was put behind bars for a night till the effect of alcohol dissipated. After a run in with law enforcement the second time, his parents pulled him out of New York and back to Los Angeles.

He enrolled in a state college. He met new friends and seemed to be doing well at school. One evening, his mom was looking at his photos on Instagram, just trying to see what his activities were. She saw a photo of his son in a romantic embrace with another guy. Many friends sent messages of greetings— “Happy First Year Anniversary”.

She was shocked, not angry, but extremely sad. How could she not know? So that’s why he was shy when with women. She didn’t think his being effeminate was a sign. She and her husband just thought he was “soft”.

After three years, she began to accept that his son is gay. He finished college with honors and is now gainfully employed by one of the biggest tech companies. Their son had since broken up with Nathaniel and now lives with his new partner in a house they bought for $750,000. He has matured and has become this kind, wonderful and responsible person. He and his partner are both hardworking and responsible. The mom told me they don’t go out partying and drinking like when his son was a freshman in New York. The parents love his partner so much. He’s respectful, successful and respectable.

She and her husband began to focus their attention on their youngest son. He’s 18 and about to enter college this fall. No more going to far away school like in New York. He’s going to the state college near their house.
He’s shy, soft,,,, oh oh. The father said he could be gay too. And that means they will never heave grandchildren. The mom said “no” he’s straight, I am sure of that”. To be very sure, she looks at his son’s Instagram photos every night.
