Our arctic circle tour brought us next to Kilpisjarvi, Lapland, Finland via private transfer provided for by the owners of Tundrea Holiday Resort Hotel, where we would be spending two nights. It was part of what Oyen arranged beforehand.
Edmund with Simon, who picked us up from Tromso. He runs the hotel with his parents, brothers and their girlfriends.
I couldn’t believe how thick the snow was.
The cottages were almost buried in snow.
The guy at the front desk is the brother of Simon. I forgot his name but I know it also begins with letter S. He said his aunt started the place with a small cafe. After it caught fire, they rebuilt and expanded the place. Tundrea now boasts of dozens of log cabins, cottages, ski apartments. Their land is bordered by the Lake Kilpisjarvi.
Free magazines about Lapland and the Arctic were available at the reception.
Kilpisjarvi is considered remote. The town has only three or four restaurants and they are all in the top 4 (cheers). There’s one gas station, one small hardware and pharmacy. There is one small school with 16 students.
