One of the most difficult things that I am having trouble with is accepting that we people are not the same. It’s hard for me to understand why other people cannot understand the way I understand things and situations. I know I am wrong to expect people to have the same perspectives as I have but I can’t still grapple with the fact that most people are narrow minded. Or maybe they are not, maybe I am.
We speak the same language. English, Tagalog, Taglish. But from my long experience, it’s not what we say and do but how it’s interpreted by the other person and vice versa. It could also be that the way we say things is hard to comprehend. Or we say things we don’t mean or we lie.
I guess things become complicated because the human sphere includes an interplay of emotions, ego, self-pity, superiority, inferiority, knowledge, education, experience, intelligence, motives, outside influence, etc.
The less educated, less experienced, less exposed, the depth of understanding is oftentimes shallower. However, it’s not a hard and fast rule. Some people have higher education, wealth, experience, exposure, and yet they are stupid. Not dumb-dumb, but narrow minded. Maybe the problem emanates from their being greedy, egoistic, and self-serving. It’s not that they don’t understand, but their motivations are entirely different and contrary to what is true, just and good. They can’t distinguish between what is right and what is not because they only see it from their own belief of what is truth and just. Their thinking is only based on a straight pattern, how it benefits them. If it benefits them then that is the only kind of thing they understand.
