Oyen booked us a table at Paste, a one-star Michelin Star restaurant located on the fifth floor of Gaysorn Village in Bangkok.

We had a quiet, relaxing lunch.

The receptionist was welcoming.

I wanted to choose from the a la carte menu but it was hard to choose from among the dishes. It was tiring to read the English descriptions.

I was in the mood for noodles but I didn’t come here to a Michelin star restaurant to eat pansit.

After flipping thru the pages several times we decided to go for the lunch tasting menu to simplify our lives.

Amuse-bouche or hors d’œuvre. Good but not amazing as we would expect from Michelin star restaurants.

Among all the dishes this was Oyen and I’s favorite.

Watermelon, ground salmon, with fried shallots and roasted galangal powder.

We ate everything on the plate including the flower.

Something sticky.

More like bouillabaisse. Taste is okay but not a wow dish.  This river prawn was not originally part of the tasting menu but we switched it because this was not spicy.

Hot and sour soup of crisp pork leg, roast tomatoes and fried garlic in a smoky chicken broth.

We’ve dined in restaurants in other parts of the world that are not starred but the service, plating, food are extraordinary.

Water is not free. They will serve you a whole bottle of Evian water if you are not paying attention. They have less expensive choices only if you ask.

Service at Paste is okay.

There was one small slice of fish fillet on this curry.

The thing about dining in Michelin starred restaurants is that our expectations are naturally high. We walk into their restaurant expecting nothing but the best. We pay more we expect more. Impeccable service, eye-popping plating, and super delectable gourmet food. Anything less than that is a let-down.
