No matter what we do, nature and environment-loving humans, there is no way we can reduce, reuse and recycle all those gazillion amounts of plastic in our midst. Even if we ban the straws, re-use every plastic bag, turn shampoo sachets into handbags, there is simply no humanly possible way that we can make a dent in this garbage-collecting humans. The world, our one, and only shared-world will continue to be deluged with all sorts of garbage not from the users and consumers but from the manufacturers. Manufacturers who always find creative ways to make the packaging more attractive and cost-effective. And what is that? Use of plastics.
We must eliminate plastics from the source. All governments, all countries, must require all manufacturers to change their packaging. To make them simpler so they don’t dish out too much unnecessary garbage and stop using plastics as the packaging material.
Philippine manufacturers must STOP their tiny sachets of shampoo, moisturizers, conditioners, lechon sauces, toyo-mansi, etc. I know and understand that you want to capture the billion-peso B,C,D,E markets. But please, those tiny sachets end up scattered on the streets, in the waterways, into the lake, and into the ocean. Be guilty about it. Profit is good but conscience is better.
I’ve seen smaller plastic bottles of water and soft drinks. For earth’s sake, please manufacturers, stop.
Wooden straws are wrapped in plastic? Wooden straws, wrap in paper.
Toyo, patis, suka— bring back the glass bottles.
Manufacturers, please take the lead in changing the human lifestyle that will not clutter the earth and eventually not destroy life itself. Start re-thinking how you can use more environmental-friendly and bio-degradable packaging materials. If you were able to invent plastics, then you can invent something better than that.
The only way to eliminate plastics is from the source of it all, the manufacturers.
