Prior to joining the UST Basketball Varsity Team, Edmund played for the Commerce team.
When he tried out, the coach then was Mario “Ayong” Marasigan who happened to be from Malabon where Edmund also came from.
Edmund wasn’t sure if he was able to pass the trials or Mario only liked him because they were both from Malabon. Mabait daw sa kanya.
Edmund became the Commerce team’s coach after Mario left.
Mario played for the PBA— Great Taste and Mariwasa.
He now lives in Missouri with his wife Ayi Ramos Montano, a niece of FVR.
When Edmund found out from their common friend Joey Maniquis that Mario would be visiting Manila this November, he contacted his USTe basketball teammates to have a reunion with Mario. He also arranged for a round of golf with another former UST Glowing Goldies and Crispa MICAA teammate Paking Maristela.
Paking graciously hosted a nice dinner and inuman for about a dozen former teammates which included Dr. Rene Ugalde, Benjie Gutierrez, Ricky Valero, Rey Sy, ______ (for updating and photo to follow)
Mario stayed with us for two nights. We served him daing na bangus which he loved because in Missouri daw frozen na yung nabibili and the texture was different.
I was amazed at his stories, parang teleserye but funny. Our law professor pala in college, Atty. Saysay, became his brother in law. Small world.
Edmund brought him to UST for a nostalgic tour of the campus and the two even attended the Sunday Mass at the UST church. Ang babait.
