Aside from eating, the only activity we have today is a short drive-by around the circumference of Healdsburg square and a short exploration of the scenery in the countryside, which is less than 10 minutes drive from the town center.
I searched online on what we can do for a few hours and most of the things are wine tasting. We’re no heavy wine drinkers so that’s out. And with almost zero degree temperature, who wants to visit vineyards?
I found this place online which I thought was a cafe by a river. We went anyway. It’s just too bad that there are no roses yet. This is a rose garden and this place must be beautiful in the middle of spring and all of the summer.
They have a short guided tour (with a small fee) showing the 650 plus varieties of roses some from ancient times planted around the story-book house and 250 plus varieties of irises. They also teach how to plant and properly care for roses.
They have a short orientation on how to extract oil from freshly-harvesed roses.

(Fast forward: My posts are one month delayed. As of this writing, the destruction in Ukraine is raging and it’s being perpetrated by Russia. It is unfortunate that this beautiful rose garden carries the name Russia, but this is no fault of theirs. I condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine under the strongest terms. I pray every day that this madness stops.
