Alternative Medicines - Oh My Buhay

Alternative Medicines

There are so many sick people, ay ang dami talaga. Syempre when you or your loved one don’t get any better despite numerous drug prescriptions and piling hospital bills, we look for alternative medicine. Even with a miniscule chance of getting well is good enough.

doctor's visit, cartoons

After my father was operated on for colon cancer, the oncologist / surgeon told my doctor brother, Kuya Junior, that my father had 6 months left to live.
My other brother, Kuya Lito, looked for alternative medicines other than the body-busting chemotherapy. He found a health facility in Reno or Lake Tahoe in Nevada, some four to 5 hours drive from where my parents lived. The over-the-weekend sessions of heavy injections of herbal concoctions and other so-called natural anti-oxidant boosters cost US$6,000 / week.

His condition didn’t improve after a few sessions. He didn’t want to go back to the clinic to undergo another round of painful injections and IVs. My father also had difficulty sitting in the car for 4-5 long hours.

The 66 year old dad of my son’s friend has been confined in the hospital for more than a month now and the feeling of helplessness is creeping into his family’s morale. He has stage 4 cancer and the doctors have operated on him a few times. His tummy is not well that’s why he couldn’t eat thru his mouth. His family loves him so dearly and hate to entertain even a whiff of thought that he would not recover.

We all cling to our hope that one day, our sick loved one would open his/her eyes, breathe and smile again. But we all know that this doesn’t happen all the time. Sometimes, their eyes remained closed forever. Our love for them remains. Their passing doesn’t change our memories of their smiles and how they touched our individual lives. Their love will stay with us. But one day, no matter how painful, we, the living who were left behind, would begin to accept their passing, find peace within our hearts and learn how to smile again.

Get well soon to all who are sick. Spend time with your family. Hug them tight. Life is hello. Death is goodbye. Let’s keep on living and loving.

  1. I know what it’s like to be in the hospital for more than a month, Ms Annie.. Nakakabaliw ang feeling kc day in and day out, doctors and nurses ang makikita mo na pumapasok sa room mo madalas.. Nakakamiss ung family and pets and of course, ung environment na nakasanayan mo na.. 🙁

I will include the Dad of Nyke’s friend in my Novena.. Nothing is impossible with God.. If we PRAY HARD enough, God will be kind and merciful with His Healing Graces.. 🙂

Enjoy ur weekend and be safe and healthy always, Ms Annie.. God bless u and the family…

I will not be in pain.

  3. Joey when it’s Stage 1 or 2, there’s still a fighting chance. But when it’s Stage 3 or 4 I will also balk at the thought of undergoing invasive procedures like chemo bec I haven’t met anyone who totally got rid of the cancer with this treatment.

  4. My grandpa passed away just a few days ago. After 1 month sa hospital (almost 2m na bill), he didn’t get better. He begged us to take him home ..pagod na daw sya sa kaka-injection at hirap na din sa catheter.

He survived cancer but TETANUS got him. He thought he was safe from tetanus coz he had a vaccine just a year ago. Didn’t bother to get a booster shot when he got a tiny scratch on his hand. Doctors didn’t even know it was tetanus till after a week at the hospital..akala nila stroke daw.

It sucks coz he beat cancer, only to die from tetanus.

    1. Dear Truff,

Those with weak immune system due to cancer are not advised to have boosters but there are risks too.
The passing of your lolo is sad. Thank you for sharing his story. I will post it so it warns all of us from the dangers of tetanus.

      In faith and sympathy,
      Omb

  5. Trader Joe Supermarket has plenty of natural medicines for cancer, there is no need for chemotherapy, where it destroy body’s immune system. Food alone can cure cancer. Do not tell it to the doctors, because as of now there is a battle going on between medical science and doctors of natural herbal supplements

    1. Jesus heals and cures cancer.
But choose only one it’s either Jesus or doctor. Because Jesus cannot help you if the doctor removed your uterus because of cancer and then come to Jesus that you want to get pregnant.
