Ambassador’s Reception

September 25, 2014 Thursday
About half an hour after eating bacon and egg at the breakfast meeting with US Political Expert Barry Jackson, I felt pain in my stomach. I thought it’s just gas pain that would go away in a few minutes. I ignored it while touring Capitol Hill. It didn’t go away, the pain was constant but I could tolerate it.

At 5 pm on that same day, we went to the official residence of the Philippine Ambassador to the United States, Joey Cuisia, and his wife Marivic in Washington DC. This was a welcome reception for our delegation and for Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert del Rosario who flew in from New York just to spend a few hours with us.

I finished a glass of ice cold kalamansi juice kasi I was tired and thirsty. I wasn’t sure if it would worsen my stomach discomfort but I drank it nonetheless.

We were led to the room across the saloon. This was the dining room where lots of food were prepared by their Filipino caterer.

We should stop calling this dish Lumpiang Shanghai. Baka our Asian neighbor will lay claim, baka angkinin din ito. Let’s just call this dish Lumpiang Maynila.

Maraming salamat to our host Ambassador and Mrs. Cuisia. I wished we were not in a hurry and my tummy wasn’t aching. I wouldn’t mind staying for dinner.
