We went to Taal to visit Asia’s biggest church, the St. Martin de Tours.
Oh My, that is huge. Let’s go inside….
Standing at 96 meters tall and 45 meters wide, the magnificent Taal Basilica was built in 1575 three years after the Spaniards founded the Taal town. It was destroyed when Taal volcano erupted in 1754 but was immediately rebuilt in 1755. A powerful earthquake completely destroyed it in 1849. The new church was built starting from 1856 and was finally inaugurated in 1885.
At 127 years old , the Basilica’s exterior needs some restoration work but without altering it’s original character and architectural design.
The church‘s tower dwarfs my son.
