Bad Tagalog and English is Contagious

I do speak Tagalog very well and I am more comfortable expressing my thoughts in Tagalog most especially when I am mad. Sapakin kita! But many times, like most of us now, we combine Tagalog with English and that’s acceptable as long as the usage is correct.
For example: “Gagamitin mo ba ang telephone?”

Lately, I’ve been hearing Filipinos’ usage of Taglish (and English) and it’s getting worse.

For example:

1. In an interview on tv, a successful young entrepreneur was sharing her experiences to inspire viewers. She said “kung gusto mo maging succesful, yan ang igo-goal mo.

2. Woman—–“Nagbigay na ako ng claw”.
She meant she already gave a clue.

3. Woman—“Nag-e-age na ako, marami na akong pains and needles”.

4. Staff—“isa-summary ko”
(I will summarize it.)

5. Woman—–“I can go and not I can went.”
(Ano daw?)

6. Woman—-“He count, I call the client.”
Aguy-aguy!

7. Woman—-“Iko-call kita.”
(I will give you a call.)

8. Female artista —- “Bread and breakfast.”
(She’s actually right because usually there is bread in breakfasts.)

8. I was scanning some clothes racks at a department store in Pasig.
Sales lady—-Madame, this size fixes you.”

9. I wanted to try on a dress that would hopefully hide my bulges.
I saw a sales lady standing nearby—-
A—-“Miss, hindi ko makita yung fitting room.”
Sales lady to me—–“Pits mo mam?”

10. Newscaster —-“Hindi pa natin alam, mamaya kikitain ko sya.”
Please por dios por santo. Kikitain is not to see or meet a person. It means you’ll earn money. Use “magkikita” and not kikitain.

Magkikita kami mamaya.
Sa loob ng munisipyo kami magkikita.
Magkita-kita tayo sa Sabado ng hapon.

Kikitain ko rin ang pera na nawala sa akin.
Magsipag ka lang at awa ng Dyos ay kikita ka rin ng pera.
Kumita sya ng malaki sa pagtitinda ng kalabasa.

I know Tagalog conjugation is tricky. Akyatin, umakyat, inakyat, iniakyat. Pangit, pumangit, napangitan… Stay with me and you’ll learn correct Tagalog usage.
