Bantam Chickens - Oh My Buhay

I woke up this morning to the sound of chickens, cluck cluck cluck.
Edmund said those bantam chickens would be his birthday gift to Nyke.

And where did he get them?

He heard chickens while he was walking along this street in the subdivision. He asked the “boy”. He said his amo is giving them away because their house would be under renovation. All 11 of them.

Edmund got excited most especially when the boy said he’s going give the chickens to Edmund.

The owner is actually an 84 year old Chinese guy and he only comes out at exactly 6:30 in the morning to have his tea in their garden while reading the day’s newspaper. Under the mango tree, with the chickens beside him like pets. He goes inside his house at exactly 7 am and after that, no one is to bother him. You need something from him, wait the next day, and you only have a half hour window.

Edmund was there today before 6:30 am. To cut the story short, the old man gave Edmund a pair of bantam chickens. In gratitude, Edmund is thinking of giving the old man a can of tea leaves a lot more expensive than the value of the chickens.

They are full grown but generally smaller than regular chickens.
The smaller one is female and is ready to lay eggs. The guy is medyo matapang. Get a little closer and he’s ready to tuka you.

Chickens are not allowed in the village. I was worried our neighbor would call the security and admin office to complain that aside from dogs, we have two noisy chickens. Edmund said they are just transients. We’re moving them to the farm soon.

It took us about 15 minutes deliberating on what to name them.
Chiqui and Cock (mahalay), Chiqui and JB, Chicken and Joy (corny),
We instanly agreed on the girl’s name but we got stuck thinking of a better name for the macho guy. Cocker” Crocker”

Tinola-to-be or not to be:

Chiqui (female) and Curry (male).

  1. We used to have bantam chickens in the house too. Unfortunately, when the rotties came, they didnt like the noisy, in your face 2 legged animals, so, one by one, they disappeared. Happiest of Birthdays to Nyke!!
