Beware of Taxis - Oh My Buhay

Oyen had dinner tonight with her friend Stephanie. Steph told her that her female Fil-Am friend was traumatized when she rode a taxi just recently FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME. She didn’t have a car on that day. She hailed a cab in front of Chili’s in Greenhills at 5:30 in the afternoon. Two men appeared from behind and also got on the taxi. The taxi driver told her to move to the center. KASABWAT! They sandwiched her at the back of the taxi. Since it was traffic, the two men put their arms over her shoulders to pretend that they knew each other. They took all her belongings, lap top, phone, money, and they also withdrew P40,000 from her ATM. They started groping her with the intention to rape her. They were laughing while she was crying and praying aloud. The cab driver told the guys three times to leave her alone because they’ve already gotten all her belongings. He said “kawawa naman, huwag nyo na syang galawin”. The taxi driver told the guys to stop molesting her. They dropped her off at a gas station in Cubao. The gasoline boys were not surprised to see a woman crying and disoriented. They just accompanied her to the police. Apparently, at least ten times a day, taxis drop off their victims at their gas station. Abah, madaling mahuli yan. Magbihis lang ang dalawang police ng kunwari gusgusin at tumayo dun sa gas station. Pag merong pumara na taxi at may bumabang babae na umiiyak at walang gamit, hulihin agad yung taxi.

This is not the first time that someone was mugged after taking a cab from Greenhills. Almost all the women were raped. That area has become a magnet for criminals. Taxi drivers know that balikbayan, local and foreign tourists go there to shop, merong pera. Don’t bring wallets when you’re going there to shop. Scatter your money in your bag. Don’t bring too much cash. Kung pwede wag na kayong mag ATM, bakit nung araw wala namang ATM. Ako nga walang ATM. Konting abala kasi lagi akong nauubusan ng cash, pero we should learn to let go of some modern day conveniences. At saka di ba yung ATM ngayon na-ha -hack and naho-holdup pa yung nagwi-withdraw.
