August 26, 2018 Sunday
It was a long weekend and traffic was also “longer” in Tagaytay. We thought we would be late for our 7:30 pm dinner reservation in Antonio’s. By 6:30 pm we were still caught up in traffic. We came from the bukid, fed our chickens and our dogs and we smelled like ducks! We had to go back to the hotel, wash up and change. We had 15 minutes to freshen up. Good that the heavy traffic was Rotonda bound and Antonio’s is on the opposite direction, Batangas bound. We made it at exactly 7:30 pm.
Antonio’s used to be the quietest restaurant in Tagaytay, not any more. Due to it’s popularity, there are more diners now and tables are closer to each other.
The menu has changed and the prices too.
I wished my son was also with us, I already knew what he would have ordered, the lamb.
The raclette was superb. Although I am not fond of jams and chutney, I love raclette. Next time I go to Antonio’s this would be tops on my order list. I would just eat this as my main course and nothing else.
Raclette is a Swiss and French dish which is basically melted cheese. In Germany it’s called bratchas or roasted cheese.
The salad was unsatisfying. Salads have basically the same greens. The one that makes a salad is the dressing. In this particular case I didn’t taste the dressing. We all thought there was no dressing at all. The taste was too subtle for our tastes.
Why is pumpkin soup so popular? People hate kalabasa and yet it’s top two in favorite soup ingredient. Mushroom and pumpkin dominate the soup category in thousands of restaurants around the world. I’ve always wondered— is there no other vegetable worthy of this attention other than the pumpkin and mushroom? If I were a chef I would try to concoct an equally delicious soup using other veggies.
In fairness, Antonio’s pumpkin soup is delicious.
We were seated inside, on the second floor. Last time we were here our table was located beside the pond which was more romantic, al fresco, secluded and it felt very private.
I ordered steamed clams with prawns, garlic, tomatoes and pasta. I couldn’t finish the whole thing because I had eaten a lot of bread. My stomach was bursting with bread.
I had half of this pasta wrapped. The next day I gave the left over pasta to Cali and Jersey. One prawn each, clams without the shell, and pasta. They only licked the tomatoes but didn’t eat them. Ayaw pala ng dogs ng kamatis.
Oyen wasn’t able to finish her food for the same reason. After the bread, raclette, salad and soup, she was full.
Grilled prawns with black ink pasta
Edmund had grilled US short ribs. He had some left over because busog na rin sya but he didn’t want to have the meat wrapped for Cali and Jersey. Kasi daw there was only one bone and baka daw mag-away pa. Nahinayang ako.
My favorite dessert in Antonio’s is the guava sorbet.
Edmund didn’t want to eat the dessert that came with his meal so I ate it.
I had two more scoops of ice cream. This is the reason why I now weigh 130 lbs. The highest so far. That’s bad, really really bad. How can I get rid of 10 lbs? I know but I don’t follow. Stop eating ice cream and pasta.
This would be the 150th time that I was present at Edmund’s birthday. We met in college remember? Every year is different that’s why it’s not boring.
Happy birthday Tart, your wish is heaven’s command.
