March 14, 2018
The Borealis showed up right above Tromso on March 14, 2018 despite the light pollution in the city. We were standing in front of the hotel when we spotted it. It was not as strong because of the light pollution but amazingly I was able to capture its faint image using my cellphone even if I didn’t download the northern lights app.
While we were stargazing just outside the hotel’s main entrance, a Norwegian guy struck a conversation with Edmund.
He said he’s a carpenter and lives half hour away from the city. He was attending a business conference at the Clarion Edge Hotel. He seemed drunk. He told us his name is George, George Bush.
Eh President Bush, paki taas ho ang zipper nyo.
We went up to our room to pack and get ready for our trip to Kilpisjarvi the next day.
E—-“Hindi ka pa ba matutulog?”
A—-“No”.
E—-“Iintayin mo ba hanggang 11:30 pm?”
A—-“We lose sleep doing unimportant things. What’s another hour to see the borealis?”.
Photo would be more clearly defined and spectacular with an SLR or a good camera in low light setting. I was just too happy that I was able to capture the image of the aurora even if the photo looked blurry.
The aurora hovered over Tromso till 11:30 pm. We didn’t have to drive an hour away to Sommaroy to get a glimpse of it. It was right here, outside our hotel room window. Ahhh what a blessing. For two hours, it appeared, disappeared, appeared, disappeared several times. I went to bed right away as soon as it disappeared at 11:30 pm.
That’s amazing!
lucky you
