Breakfast in Sonya's Garden - Oh My Buhay

Breakfast in Sonya’s Garden

When my son was in high school, after the driver dropped him off at school, I hied off to Sonya’s Garden in Alfonso, Cavite to have breakfast and body massage. I did that twice. It was total relaxation and some quiet alone time.
There was no heavy traffic yet during those days. I could reach Tagaytay in 45 minutes from our house and be back by 3 pm just before my son would be picked up from school.

After more than 10 years, I was back at Sonya’s breakfast table, this time not by myself but with my husband. I’ve been wanting to eat there but I couldn’t do it when my husband was with me. A few times I broached the idea of eating there, he resented because medyo malayo nga naman from Tagaytay proper.

At last on September 1, husband agreed to have breakfast there. We left Manila quite early so it took us a little less than two hours travel time. We also brought along a driver so Edmund was more open to the idea of going a little farther away.

I actually wanted to bring him there not for the food because I was almost certain he would not like it but I wanted him to see the garden. Why he wold not like the food? We’ve had breakfast there long long time ago and he didn’t like it. It’s hard to please him.

I noticed several new improvements in the area including native houses.

The breakfast area has considerably expanded since my first time here. It now looks more of a large restaurant than a quaint little house’s dining area.

Sonya herself dropped by the restaurant for a short while. I didn’t greet her anymore because I don’t think she remembers me. I’ve met her twice at a party and the most recent was at the dinner in Maymay’s party house. Sonya told us the story about helicopter sex.

The champorado was served cold so we sent it back to the kitchen for reheating.

The red and pink flowers added a nice romantic touch to the fruit plate. The mango was sweet and delicious.

There was no menu list, the dishes were served to our table family style. The sunny side up eggs didn’t look sunny. They were overcooked. My husband wasn’t happy at all. He always likes his eggs done over easy. Of course I also don’t like his eggs to be kuluntoy.

A golden retriever and a pig roam freely in the restaurant. The pig is a candidate for the baby lechon pageant.

As usual my husband was not impressed with the food. That means next time I want to go back there it’s either I bring my daughter along or myself.
