The Bridesmaid

The main reason why we went to Legazpi last week was because we attended the wedding of Oyen’s friend, Jolly, the sister of Happy and Cheers.

Oyen’s the bridesmaid.

The fabric, including the 3 inner layers were provided by the bride.
Amir Sali designed it, according to Oyen’s specification that she wanted “tube”.

Jolly is 31. She and Oyen met in Manila a few years ago when they both attended modelling classes.

Here comes the alalay of the bridesmaid. Taga hawak ng bag at cellphone. We were already in Bicol when I realized I forgot to bring a formal bag.

Oyen and I hitched a ride with the bride’s sisters. We rode a van and I sat at the back.
nahilo talaga ako, when we reached the church, parang akong buntis na gustong masuka.

The Aquinas church was some 20 minutes ride away thru town. It’s inside a big compound, siguro inside Aquinas University. It’s a modern structure which I am not a fan of.
I like old churches steep with history and character.

She didn’t want to have her picture taken at the altar kaya dito na lang sa labas.

Oyen was perspiring, ang init kasi sa loob, walang aircon at tsaka doble doble kasi yung lining nung gown nya.

Sino kaya ang nagdecorate nito?

The aisle looks long but actually it’s not. It’s probably no more than 10 meters, from the entrance to the altar.

While waiting for the wedding to start, I was busy thinking of ways to improve the decor of this church. There were at least four or five shades of varnish.
Parang ang daming elements.

Oyen’s partner is Wilson Cembrano, born in Legazpi, friend of groom, now living in LA.

Ayan na nga ba ang sinasabi ko, ang ikli nung lalakaran, apat na hakbang lang, siksikan na sila sa harap. Para tuloy ang gulo. Pano na yan, the bride has a long train.

Modern na talaga ngayon, iba-iba na ang wedding march song. Hindi na yung jang jang jarang.
I was surprised when the crowd clapped their hands for the bride. How come they didn’t clap their hands for the groom? Meron pang pausok when the bride entered the door.

Pag si Oyen ang ikakasal, I will volunteer to be the event organizer. I will hang the priest in the ceiling, tapos dahan-dahan siyang ibaba-ba sa altar na nakadipa ang mga braso nya. Kailangan payatot ang pari, at baka mapatid yung lubid eh mabigti sya. It’s good to have a back-up priest.

Oyen read the Prayers of the Faithful

The soloist was imported from Manila. Joseph Olfindo,a member of the band New Minstrels. I have his number in case we have an event at home, instead of me doing the singing myself.

Lahat pala sila may hawak na bulaklak, ngayon ko lang napansin. When you get married, ikaw na lang ang mag bouquet, wag na yung mga sponsors. Sayang ang pera.  And it takes away the limelight from your own bouquet.

The bride’s younger sister Cheers, 28. Should be Cheery.

Seven years na silang mag-sweetheart. Jolly is 31 while Haresh is 40. Yes, she feels the age gap.

  1. I like the idea of hanging the priest tapos dahan dahang ibababa. I think that will be the first of its kind!
