Can't believe we are sailing to Alaska - Oh My Buhay

Can’t believe we are sailing to Alaska

Although Majestic Princess would sail at 3 pm, we were already at the port by 12 noon. It is better to be early than to be left behind. We went through almost two months of undeserved stress trying to renew our Canadian visas to join this cruise therefore, it would be a pity if the boat left us behind due to tardiness.

I was excited to see Alaska and nervous at the same time because I was afraid of getting seasick. We’ve crossed out any plans of cruising in the past three decades because of my fear. So this day was big for me. I was conquering my fear. I’ve taken several boat cruises in the past but only for a few hours or day trips only, to cross a river, a lake, a channel, or short rides from Tallinn to Helsinki, or to hop from one island to another in Greece, but never overnight and definitely not for one week. This is it.

There was some confusion with regard to the location of the room my sister in law booked. She was certain that she booked two adjacent rooms but it turned out that our rooms were on the opposite sides of the ship.
I actually didn’t care much about the kind of room we would get because I knew that I had to compromise to have an adjacent room. all I requested was I wanted to have a balcony and a king bed. My sister in law was able to get a room with a sofa.
That was the last room available because we actually booked this cruise medyo late na. Other passengers usually book way in advance, some as early as one year. kami tila two or three months lang.

After we’ve accepted that our rooms were far apart, I began to feel claustrophobic. Maybe psychological. I went down to the customer service to request for a room upgrade. In my mind, I didn’t have to be near my brother and sister in law, kasi magkalayo na ang rooms namin. However, no more mini-suite or suite available I was told. I went back to our stateroom and psyched myself up that our room was cozy and comfortable. It really proved to be comfy. The bed was large for two adults, comfy and the balcony was large. The toilet and shower was tiny but I am not a big woman kaya kasya naman ako. My husband eh kasya din.

Minutes before our ship started sailing, the captain’s voice loomed over through the television in our room. He welcomed all of us and gave some basic safety reminders.

I can’t believe we are sailing now to Alaska.

Sail away ohmybuhay!
