Oyen joined Carlos Celdran’s two-hour walking tour around Intramuros. She invited me to join them but I wasn’t physically prepared. I only found out they were joining on that day although she had mentioned to me in the past that she was planning to join this Intramuros tour.
There were around fifty of them on that day, with many foreigners. According to Celdran’s staff, there were times the number of attendees/ tourists that join reached over 150. Wow, that’s a cool P165,000 for a half-day work.
Oyen said six foreigners refunded their money (P1,100 each) after 30 minutes into the tour. They found Celdran’s mention of the words “Chinese Taliban” offensive.
Carlos Celdran was detained for interrupting the mass on September 30, 2010 at the Manila Cathedral. He went up to the main altar with his DAMASO placard and shouted that the church must stop getting involved in politics.

Those present were bishops, the papal nuncio, Philippine Bible Society members, some men in uniform and Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales.
He was sentenced to jail in violation of Article 133 of the Revised Penal Code– “Anyone who, in a place devoted to religious worship or during the celebration of any religious ceremony, shall perform acts notoriously offensive to the feelings of the faithful.”

My daughter found the Intramuros tour interesting and worth her time and money. The tour’s highlights were the calesa / pedicab ride to San Agustin Church (where Edmund and I got married) and the summer quencher halo-halo treat.
Carlos Celdran makes Philippine History fun and amusing.
