Casino boom in the Philippines

Casino Boom in the Philippines

Philippines on the verge of casino boom. Good or bad? Both
a) Casino owners will sleep on top of wads of cash and fill up fast their passbooks upon passbooks. Brisk business = good.
b) Thousands of Filipinos will lose their kabuhayan, swim in debts, because of casino addiction. = bad.
c) Couples will quarrel for loss of money. When money is lost, love flies out of the window = bad.

d) Thousands of Filipinos will find jobs in casinos. Thousands of kababayans will lose their hard earned money to casinos.
e) Lots of OFW’s will donate their hard -earned money to Resorts World, Thunderbird, Solaire and City of Dreams. They will go back to where they started— no money.
f) Only a portion of casino winnings are retained in the Philippines for the casino operators’ operating expenses (OPEX) and capital expenditures (CAPEX) while they are expanding. What would the owners do with the bulk of their earnings?

One of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan opened a branch in Manila, inside the City of Dreams. I have no desire to go there to eat at Nobu with my children, most especially with my son. Ayaw ko syang pumasok sa casino.
I’d rather err in over cautiousness than expose my children to something that could destroy their lives.

Everyday I chance upon the big shuttle buses of the City of Dreams at EDSA. They are painted brown and look like tourist buses. Someone told me the shuttle buses pick up players from Cubao. And who are the people who need a shuttle to go to the casino? The middle class, lower middle class, the vacationing OFWs, the hardworking class.
Naku po, ubos ang pinaghirapan. Pera nyo yan baka sabihin nyo pakialamera ako. Basta pag naghirap kayo at nalubog kayo sa utang, wag nyong sabihin na hindi ko kayo pinaalalahanan. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

  1. With casinos, the house always wins. In the end, it’s always a net loss to the player – money, life and addiction. Casinos are sad places because it’s a place for misplaced dreams. I say, work hard for your money and work even harder to keep and grow it.

  2. Here in SG naging controversy din pag open ng casinos. Just to address the fear of the people nag impose lang sila ng rule na kada citizen at Perm residents, kailangan magbayad mg 100SGD (3,200PHP) to be able to go in. Kada pasok un and non consumable.

The families can also login sa
Website to ban specific family member from entering the casino. Or you can submit your own name. I have a local friend na sabi nya ung kaanak nanalo one night ng 50K SGD. After manalo umuwi, at voluntarily blinock sarili nya from going in again sa casino for a span pf 5 yrs.
He knows with that kind pf winning babalik sya 🙂

  3. Winning 50 grand is more of an exception. I admire him from playing smart, takbo, uwi agad sya. Sana wag na syang bumalik kahit after 5 years. Baka 100k ang matalo sa kanya.
