Malls close at midnight trying to catch late shoppers. Late means cramming and / or late at night.
I was at SM Aura last Monday night from 7 pm to 8:10 pm. There was no system in my shopping, I just walked blindly hoping to spot something “gift appropriate”.
I went inside several stores and for some reason, as soon as the sales staff saw me, they pointed me to the sale or discounted sections.

Sales staff—– Mam, eto yung mga naka sale namin.
I walked over there, because that’s where the pretty sales lady was standing.
OMB————–“Hi, how much is that?”
Sales Staff—— “Mam, meron pa rin kaming naka sale duon twenty off”.
She hasn’t answered how much and yet she was already pointing me towards another section.
OMB————– “Magkano ito?”
Sales Staff—— “Seventy five thousand, dati one hundred twenty thousand yan mam”.

A few Christmases ago, Oyen gifted her dad with a gift certificate from local brand Pedro. Edmund found their shoes comfortable and stylish. I saw their store in SM Aura.

Omb——– “Gift certificate”.
Sales lady–“Meron mam”.
Omb———“Anu anong denomination?”
Sales lady–“…..sa items mam?”
She was thinking…. isip-isip…..
Sales lady—“Pagkabili nyo tsaka kami ano, bibigyan ng gift”.
I transferred to Shangrila Mall:
There’s a nice clutch bag big enough to put a lot of stuff but the price tag is P140,000. May I go out agad ako. The girl was nice but she glanced at my tsinelas.

Omb——— “Meron kang medium, same color. Kung meron paki reserve, kunin ko bukas, wala akong cash, sayang yung discount”.
Sales guy to his co-worker — “May medium pa tayo? Kung meron wag mo ng ilabas. Gray”.

Sales guy—— “Medium”.
Co-worker—— “Large”.

I was shocked at the price of this casual Ralph Lauren dress, P32k+ it’s about $700.
I went inside four other stores and they all pointed me to the sale rack. I was wearing tsinelas lang kasi. I came from the bukid and I didn’t change my footwear na.
Or maybe they were just trying to help me get more for my 13th month money.
I went home with one shopping bag. I was happy I found something for my daughter. I hope she would like it, but no worry, there’s a gift receipt. She could exchange it within 30 days.
