Up to the last minute, my daughter and I were waiting for Edmund’s final plans on his birthday. He wanted to host a simple dinner at home for his golf buddies but since he’s extremely busy lately attending to some rush construction works, he opted for a simple celebration, “tayo lang” he said.
He thought his birthday fell on a Saturday that’s why he agreed to have a practice game at the Riviera Golf and Country Club the next day (Sunday) right on his very birth day. I did not let him cancel it but instead, we scheduled an overnight stay in Tagaytay since the following day is a holiday.
My children and I left our house at around 9 am on August 26. We brought Stitch with us together with all the tsitsirya we brought home from Iloilo.
Our vehicle was full of pillows, blankets, fresh mangoes, chips, bags, etc. Para kaming refugees.
We always enjoyed our road trips.

Fairly light traffic along Edsa, dapat naman, kasi it’s a Sunday, and since it’s a long weekend, many cars have gone out of Metro Manila
I finished one pack of Galletas from Panaderia de Molo even before we reached SLEX
Julienne was so annoyed at Stitch. She wanted to let him off the van. Ang kulit kasi.
Edmund called at around 12:30 pm they have just finished their round of golf and he has just left Riviera.
My kids and I rested for half hour then we proceeded to Marcia Adams’ restaurant where we would just meet up with Edmund. It was heavy traffic going to Cliff House which was my kids’ first preference because Fire Like Grill is there, but I suggested that we look for a restaurant this side of Tagaytay because we are proceeding to Taal, Batangas after our late lunch.
Marcia Adams is right at the border. Turn right and it’s about 200 meters from the corner.
My second time, Edmund, Oyen and Nyke’s first time. I really wanted to bring my husband here because the owner and the staff are from Sibalom, Antique. Remember? Edmund was born in Antique?
The place was so full and we couldn’t get a table, so we left and went to Sonya’s Garden. Oyen and Edmund did not feel happy going to Sonya’s but this was our best bet to get a table on a Sunday, long weekend, and along our way to Batangas. I told them, we’re here already so let’s just try if we could get a table.
Sonya’s has been regularly expanding their spread so they really have a lot of dining spaces except when there are several wedding receptions being held at the same time.
Today’s Edmund’s birthday and I really hoped he would enjoy our lunch. He’s been here before but not in this dining area. We had breakfast here once or twice but he did not like the food.
He was relieved when he saw that we were being ushered to this maaliwalas dining hall.
Julienne was feeling sick. She took Biogesic before we left our house in Manila but the headache hasn’t even subsided.
She charged her celphone battery while we were dining.
I was wearing red kasi alam mo na, Sa Chinese tradition….
Edmund said to me ” pulang-pula ka ah!”
Eh kasi birthday…
I ate all the minatamis na kamote.
At the end of the meal, we were each given a cup of hot water with tarragon leaves.
Edmund—- “perfect, perfect ito, tingnan mo, kulang na lang may isda, aquarium na”.
Chuli shiaang ger kwai laaaaa….. Chuli shiaang ger kwaiiii… laaa, Chuli shiang ger,
Chuli shiang ger, Chuli shiannnng gerrr kkwai laaa. (Happy birthday song in Chinese)
Julienne was having muscle and joint pains plus a headache even after she took another Biogesic before we left Sonya’s Garden.
