Continuation of Walking Tour

May 3 or 4, 2017 (Continuation of walking tour in Barcelona)
Now we know where we inherited the idea of old giants or higantes. From the Spaniards.

There are several fiestas or festivals around Spain that parade higantes around town. This is like what we have in Angono, Rizal and in other parts of our country.

We reached the local market during our walking tour. I wasn’t interested to go deep into the market. My legs and feet were screaming “NO, PLS STOP”.

It makes me happy looking at fresh tomatoes still attached to the vines. Ewan, nagagandahan talaga ako.

The mercado humedo has the most interesting seafood.

This store sells chorizo, sausage, jamon serrano, salami and other cured meat. Our group stopped here because the store offers free taste (pritis pritis).

barcelona 052 Schara jamon serrano,

What is more interesting is that the store cashier / sales lady is a kababayan.

Paul bought a sausage and ate it on the spot.

Dra. Carla Chuatico with husband Paul. Paul is 6’1 tall and played for the Ateneo Blue Eagles basketball varsity team during his college days that’s why he is familiar with Ed Cordero, Frank Natividad and of course, dear Edmund. He is a good tour-mate. Mabait, pala-kwento, game na game and likes to eat and shop too.

We also made several minutes stop here to taste the super tamis nougats candy.

My tour mates bought several packs for their pasalubong. Me, I didn’t taste nor buy a piece.

We passed by so many nice home-grown / local stores like this handmade shoes and bags store. Marami sigurong nang-uumit ng sapatos kasi meron silang shop-lifting detector.

We looked at this building by Antoni Gaudi only from across the street.

Eto, I regretted that we weren’t able to enter this Solingen Paris store.
I wanted to buy a small scissor. Laging nawawala ang mga gunting namin sa bahay. On second thought, siguro nga it was better that I wasn’t able to buy, mawawala lang rin yun.

barcelona 072 Solingen store

My mom had a big Solingen scissor, original from Germany. Nung araw wala pa namang peke. She cherished that scissor and once a year, an old man called a vaciador would come to the house to sharpen the Solingen scissor. Mama used that only for cutting fabrics, thin paper, threads, laces, ribbons, etc. She would never lend it to anyone for any other purpose. I wonder where that scissor is now? Probably lost.

The pink round candle says Felicidades which means best wishes, happiness, congratulations and can also be used as a happy birthday greeting or any happy occasion. From now on, I will use that as my standard greeting. Not to pretend to know Spanish but because it’s my mom’s name.

This is a favorite photo spot. Babae lang naman ang natutuwa magpicture dito. One guy said “Tama na yan, parang bago lang kayo nakakita ng condom”. Eh bago nga lang kasi nakapikit kami lagi.

I hope next time the tour guide gives us a printed route tour before we start our walking tour so that I will have a better appreciation of where we are going. I don’t want to walk and follow blindly. I am the “What’s next – Where to” kind of girl. I hate surprises. I want certainty. I need specifics.

Felicidades.
