Cooking for Family Part 1 - Oh My Buhay

Cooking for Family Part 1

(September 6, 2012 Thursday)

I left the office earlier, went home and changed to my
official market attire.
I very seldom cooked for my family so please do not think that I do this all the time. No I don’t.

I am just thinking today that maybe Edmund and my children are sawa na of Cherry’s “make-do” dishes.

Today I am going to cook grilled tuna belly for dinner bahala na if Edmund or any of my kids would be coming home for dinner. Madalas kasi, they ate out.

I went to Farmer’s Market around 4 pm.

The vendor tried so hard to sell to me some Tuna Fish Eggs.

I also bought some flowers for our kitchen table. I was dispapointed at how high the prices have gone-up since the last time I was here. A dozen roses cost P450. It was only P200 before.
I bought the white bunch for P150, before it was only P75. Double!

Plastic bags are no longer allowed so newspaper with the poisonous chemical LED is used to wrap foodies and goodies.

My kids like kakanin especially puto. But these ones I bought from Farmer’s were not good. Hindi masarap.

Tonyboy Cojuangco advised me to eat 40 pieces of sampaloc kasi daw, according to Atty. Opap Villongco, it was a proven contra constipation. It’s not clear however, how Opap was able to come up with the exact number of pieces.

Table is ready but I did not announce beforehand that I would be cooking dinner. At around 7 pm, I started sending them messages asking where they are. For some reason, they all replied they’re coming home na and would eat dinner at home.. perfect timing. I have food for them.

When Edmund arrived and saw me in the kitchen he said “O, nagluluto ka na naman, baka madapa ka na naman”.
Until now kasi I still have two burnt marks on my right hand, two big bruises and painful right foot and my hips are still a bit sore, remember? nadapa ako when I was cooking Hay yan Chicken?”

We have gulaman at sago in panutsa with pandan leaves. Ready with four glasses.

I cooked Shrimps with garlic and chili. I chopped fresh red siling labuyo kaya I was worried it would be too spicy for their tastes.

I wanted to cook adobo rice but I needed more time for preparation and marinating so at the last minute, I just cooked alamang with crispy pork bits and placed it on top of Jasmine rice and shredded manibalang na mangga.

I did not follow any recipe for bagoong rice and shrimps. imbento and tantsahan lang. I even forgot to check how they tasted after I finished cooking. Bahala na meron namang patis at kalamansi.

Tuna Belly doesn’t require any cooking talent, just sprinkle with salt and pepper then grill, half-cook.

They inhaled the food and ended super busog. I ate a piece of the shrimps and next thing I knew, the oval plate was empty. I ate a lot of bagoong rice.
Edmund said I should only cook once a week otherwise we would end up being a family of obese people.
Well, I’ll take that as a compliment. Thank you.
