We Filipinos have developed a culture of DISTRUST amongst ourselves. We don’t trust each other. We are always doubtful. We are always duda of other people’s intentions.
The way most of us act and think is an obvious indication of the kind of mentality and culture we’ve become as a nation, as a people, as individuals.
We probably got so used to people cheating each other, scamming one another, stealing from each other. Ang daming swindlers. And people with an eschewed sense of entitlement and wrong expectations and misplaced ego.
Parang ang tingin natin sa lahat ng kapwa Pilipino natin eh mga manloloko, manggagantso.
When we are offered a product, we conclude right away, ang laki naman ng tubo nito. Or siguro nangungumisyon ito. Siguro pinatungan ng malaki. We can’t blame otehrs because maybe they had previous bad experiences. But we have to try to balance dealing with doubt, caution and trust.
It’s no longer true that we are friendly and hospitable. We expect something in return that’s why we are acting hospitable to foreigners and guests. It’s no longer true that we are kind. Kindness mean not expecting anything in return.
We are not like that anymore. Siguro nung panahon ni mahoma, pero ngayon hindi na. Magpaka-totoo.
Living, breathing, and doing business in this pervading atmosphere of distrust add undeserved stress and agitation to people who are honest and truthful in their business dealings.
