Dinner at Balai, the number 1 Filipino Restaurant in St. Kitts - Oh My Buhay

Dinner at Balai, the number 1 Filipino Restaurant in St. Kitts

Balai is the name, and the owner is Albert Flores. Edmund found Balai in the list of top Filipino restaurant in St. Kitts, but there’s only one listed, it’s them. However, according to Albert, there are two more, Kubo, and the recently opened Crispy Corner, both owned and operated by Albert and his family. Ang galing ni Albert ano? Umaasenso sa napakalayong bayan dahil sa kasipagan at abilidad. At isa isa na nyang nakukuha ang kanyang pamilya at kamag-anak.

We intentionally looked for a Filipino restaurant in St. Kitts. We wanted to patronize them. We feel happy and proud that Filipinos flourish in other countries, earning a decent living through talent and hard work.

Hinanap talaga namin kung nasaan sila because we wanted to patronize our kababayan. Luckily, it is within walking distance from our hotel, Marriott. Not too near, but not too far. It could be 1.5 kilometers.
Balai also serves sisig, turon, halohalo, and other Filipino dishes.

I look tired. I am tired. Meron pa ako jetlag. Medyo napagod din ako sa lakad.

Service is medyo slow, tapos na ako kumain wala pa order ni Edmund na ramen. I was worried it’s going to rain again. We don’t have an umbrella and it’s a quite a walk back to Marriott.

Edmund is both happy and proud that Filipinos are making good in other countries. He was giving unsolicited suggestions on how to grow their brand. Pinigilan ko at masyadong intense. It’s not always that our ideas are welcomed by other people. Meron sila sariling diskarte so hayaan na lang natin. They know what they are doing, they have a vision and they know how to get there. The best thing to do is to come here and enjoy the food.

Albert Flores (center) imported his son Raffy to help him manage their growing restaurant business. They look like brothers. According to Albert there are presently 200 Filipinos living in St. Kitts, nurses, medical technicians, waiters, store managers, entrepreneurs, etc. Actually, the government of St. Kitts is inviting investors in the field of healthcare services. Doctors, nurses, x-ray and laboratory technicians, etc. are needed here and everywhere in the world.
